So every kidney has over a million very tiny filters called as nephrons. A glomerulus & tubules make form a nephron. Blood is filtered via nephrons. When they are damaged, the kidneys becomes less effective at its numerous functions. When the nephrons are injured or killed, chronic kidney disease develops. As fewer nephrons become available to clear the blood, the kidneys become damaged and less capable of keeping the body healthy.
